Decorating your room according to your own style will create a space with personality. Every single room in your house can be designed completely around your individuality. Start by picking your favorite space and decorate this room with accessories you love, and colors that inspire you. Follow my tips for fearlessly adding color and character to your favorite room.
The first thing everyone always thinks about when creating a new look for a room is: “Which color do we choose for the walls?” My tip is not to begin with your wall color, end with it! Once you start assembling the fabrics, furniture and accessories in your favorite color and pattern, the perfect wall color will reveal itself.
Always use a neutral and an accent color. For “living” spaces, it is a good idea to have a balance of warm and cool shades. My preference is to choose one warm shade and one cool one. The bolder the accent color the less of that color your space will require. Depending on how bold your accents are, they should fill up the color in your room with no more than 5 – 25%.
Decorating by using light to dark shades of a single color will make a room look more luxurious than your budget might suggest. Focus on adding interesting twists with a wide variety of textures, from stone, steel, glass, and matte to fabric and leather. Monochromatic (shades of the same color family) schemes create a sophisticated, elegant look and have a calming effect.
Don’t know how to start finding the right colors for your room? Consult your closet for cues to colors or combinations that you will love in your home. If you can pick wardrobe colors, you can decorate. A quality wardrobe is built on investment pieces, complemented with the essentials and brought to life by accessories. Design is built in exactly the same way. We pick colors for our daily wardrobe because they make us feel good. For the same reason you should pick new colors and textures you like for your interior. When you decorate in the spirit of love and happiness, finding the perfect colors for your room is easy.
