Are you planning a makeover for your home, and wondering which style matches best with your personality? Or you are just curious to know the difference between the various styles? Here is a compilation of what each style means. The main reason of this article is to provide you with the correct information in order to make an informed decision on your home makeover.

Modern Home Décor Style
In the arena of home décor, modern refers to a style of furniture that emerged in the late 19th century that was heavily influenced by modernism. This was a complete departure from the carved woods and richly patterned fabrics that were prominent during the earlier eras. The modern style of home décor emphasizes the glittering simplicity and geometry of polished metal and plastics. The emphasis of modern furniture is on functionality and accessibility, rather than on craftsmanship and eloquence, typical for the earlier era. Modern style is a static term that reached its peak during the 1950s.

The Eileen Gray table is a classic example of modern furniture. Designed in 1927 as a bedside table, the asymmetry of this piece is characteristic of Gray’s non-conformist design style. Notably, this table has the functionality to adjust its height. You can use it as a side table next to your couch or put it right next to your bed and enjoy your breakfast in bed.

Contemporary Home Décor Style
Unlike the modern style, the contemporary home décor style is a dynamic style that keeps changing with people’s latest preferences. Contemporary furniture designers and manufacturers continue to evolve their designs. They keep seeking new materials, produce unique forms, while employing simplicity and lightness, in preference to heavy ornament. Yesterday’s contemporary is today’s vintage.
The contemporary chair shown in the image below adds shine and flair to any décor. The chair is made of aluminium which makes it extremely light weight, it has grey plastic feet to provide cushion against the floor surface, and is polished with a matt finished – a feature unheard of in the 19th century.

Mid-century Home Décor Style
The mid-century style describes mid-20th century developments in modern design from roughly 1933-1965. This style is now recognized as a significant design movement. This style is characterized by simplicity, democratic design, and natural shapes.
The egg chair designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1958 is a fine example of mid-century furniture.

Eclectic Home Décor Style
The eclectic style encompasses a mixture of elements from a variety of periods and styles to create something that is new and original. A lot of efforts, thoughts, and creativity goes into creating an eclectic style that doesn’t look chaotic.

The living room shown in the picture above has a mix of different styles, ranging from the modern-style sectional sofa, the contemporary centre table, and the mid-century wall decoration. A harmonious mix of elements from different styles is typically represented in an eclectic style.

Different interesting styles to choose from! If you like all of them, like I do, the eclectic style will be your best choice.
